Forget your big goals for a while and just focus on the small daily rituals that support them

Anyone frustrated not achieving the big goals we have set ourselves?

A three minute market research will show that this is a huge drain on our mental energy and also why many of us are so frustrated, and why some of us have given up setting any goals.

Welcome to the club! We are all on the same boat.

Would you feel better if I say that we can forget our big goals for a while and just do something that we can control. We are the boss of our own small daily rituals.

Isn’t it a better place to start and focus our energy? The place where we are the boss?

The beauty of all the small daily rituals that we can perform is that they are all within our control. It is within my control what time I get up. I have the power to decide exactly what I will do for the first 30 seconds, or first 30 minutes or the next 3 hours. I can deliver exactly what I promise myself.

That doesn’t mean it’s easy but it is all within our own internal workshop to keep our promise to ourselves. It takes a lot of vows (“I will do this”, and “I will not do that”) to make us do a ritual and maintain it until it will be difficult not to do them. Like getting up one hour earlier, and not checking the phone immediately. This requires discipline at first to build the ritual and habit, but once it’s built, it would be easier to stick to it.

So what if we just forget all our big external goals for a while and just focus on the small rituals that support them?

Would it not make sense to sort our own habits out first before jumping to the big goals? Isn’t it the small habits and rituals that will eventually support the big goals?

Hey, be your own boss. We can get very frustrated because we can never have full power to achieve our big goals. But we sure are the boss of our small daily rituals, and they certainly can be our servants.

I am curious, If we get the little rituals  to serve us, would that not support our big goals better…………..?
