Our quality of life depends on what we focus on.
Do we choose to spark joy and contribute to our community? Or do we choose to run after every little bread crumb promiscuously? It’s a zero sum game! When we choose to run after bread crumbs, we are focussing on bread crumbs. We are ignoring the higher level opportunities that are available to us.
Our quality of life depends on what we focus on.
Everything that’s really worth more also happens to demand more emotional risk, emotional labour, more commitment, more easily getting stuck and more struggling, so that’s when resistance raises its head more powerfully.
Everything that’s shallow and addictive, things which we automatically and by default run to, offer the least resistance.
And so we normally have the default mode switched on to focus on the shallow and easy, and turn away from what is difficult but which is more growth oriented and fulfilment oriented.
To realise that we are the boss is to own up the choice. We get to choose.
We get to choose between what is habitual and what is unfamiliar, we get to choose between what is easy and what is hard, we get to choose between sparking joy and contributing, and running after bread crumbs.
Choosing results in where we put our focus. And focus is very thing. It is what we give to our life. What we give to life is what make life “quality”.
We give life “quality”. Quality is what we bring to life. Not the other way around.
