Am the luckiest man on earth ?

I consider I am the luckiest man on earth today, and probably tomorrow too, not only because I have clean water to drink, fresh food to eat and a  house to live in, as well as awesome family and friends. But more importantly I have been extremely lucky in the way my view of things and my perspective on the world has been shaped by some outrageously awesome people I am lucky to have encountered to make me see that I have a full glass (conveniently ignoring the half empty space) rather than a half empty glass.

I was told that the mind cannot be in a negative state and in a positive state at the same time. I took that onboard as my working hypothesis and so far I have not been able to prove it wrong. So most of the time, I tell myself I might as well choose to go for the positive one. So if I try and look for positive things at any given time, however small and difficult, I can always find them and touch them and make them bloom.

If I am still breathing, no one can prevent me from being aware of the in breath and the outbreath. Not even a dictator who locks me up in jail. I can always touch the miracle of being alive.

I will continue to consider myself the luckiest man on earth as long as I continue to recognise that it’s a miracle to be able to offer my presence to my family, to open my eyes and see the blue sky as I am doing today, to taste my bowl of rice one grain at a time, and to smell the tea leaves in my cup, to offer help to someone who needs it, and the thousands of conditions which make my life so miraculous….
