Just sit down and DO IT!

I am doing a little video and a small resource on “The ABC of meditation and ……..”Put your bottom where your heart wants to be”…..

I decided to give a simple tip to begin the video. And it dawned on me that the best tip and simplest, most effective tip to success in meditation is simple. “Just sit down and stay down!”

Many people have asked me before to help them meditate. I prepared reading materials, gave them written suggestions, and step by step procedures,………and most of them fail to continue.  Somehow their internal narratives led them to giving up. Somewhere along the line they convinced themselves they can’t do it. Resistance?

Now having been doing a bit of work on this subject and reading on “resistance” by Steven Pressfield,  I think I have now “hit the nail on the head”.

I can now see why monastic novices have no problem meditating. They all succeed.

It is the “sit down and do the work”. No questions asked. No resistance. Just sit down and do it!

That’s what monastics do. That’s what all successful meditators do.

I am fortunate that I was trained in meditation by Buddhist monks. They of course don’t have any nonsense. They follow a fixed schedule and sit down at the time to sit down, and get up at the time to get up.

That’s what real painters do. That’s what real writers do.

Sit down and do it.

Now, I remember a quote by French mathematician Pascal: “All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone”.

This seems to be the secret!
